One of the most powerful examples of this impact is the story of Kathaleen Baisch, an OHI San Diego Scholarship recipient whose healing journey continues to inspire our entire community.
Kathaleen’s Story: Finding Hope When It Was Needed Most
In October of 2022, Kathaleen received life-altering news: she was diagnosed with two forms of breast cancer. Chemotherapy left her depleted, overwhelmed, and searching for an approach that would support—not diminish—her sense of vitality. When she felt pressured into surgery before she was ready, she knew she needed a different path.
That path revealed itself in an unexpected moment—a conversation at a local farmer’s market in San Diego. There, Kathaleen learned about OHI. Drawn to the idea of holistic healing and in great need both physically and financially, she applied for and received a full three-week stay through the OHI Scholarship Program.
Even while overcoming substantial pain, Kathaleen showed up with courage, openness, and a willingness to embrace the program fully. Within just two weeks, she noticed profound changes: her thinking became clearer, her body began to feel lighter, and she saw visible improvement, including a tumor that began to shrink with wheatgrass poultices and lymphatic massage. These shifts renewed not only her physical well-being, but her sense of hope and direction.
Kathaleen often says her scholarship gave her far more than a stay at OHI—it gave her the foundation for true healing and a renewed sense of purpose. Her journey is one of many that remind us why this work matters so deeply.
