As guests share time and again, the staff at OHI is second-to-none. Cheryl Green was proud to be part of the incomparable Austin staff for 24 years. “Spending more than two decades at OHI Austin was the joy of my life,” said Cheryl. “But I also have another source of joy in my life, and that is my five grandchildren. When my youngest grandchild was born, she was the only one living in the same zip code as me. I was given the opportunity to help care for her, and I jumped at it. So, while I was thrilled to retire from OHI to spend time with my granddaughter, I always said I would be back. Two-and-a-half years later, I am proudly returning to be part of the OHI staff once again.
Every Tuesday you’ll find me teaching and leading the prayer circle before lunch. I’m truly honored to be able to serve. I am grateful to be back with the staff and missionaries who feel like family to me. They are ‘my people’, and when we are together, I feel like there’s a happy energy that I connect with. The knowledge, the dedication, and the heart every staff member and missionary puts into the guest experience is so inspiring. And I am so excited to return to OHI and have the opportunity to reconnect with guests that I’ve known for years. We have so many shared memories and experiences that will always be special to me. And I’m eager to get to meet new OHI guests as they embark on their wellness journeys. I’m proud to be a small part of the healing and growth they will find at OHI.”
Cheryl’s enthusiasm for OHI’s body-mind-spirit program is palpable. “There’s nothing like the OHI program anywhere else,” said Cheryl. “The cleanse jumpstarts your healing, but it’s the classes that inspire real change. I’ve taught all of the classes in the OHI curriculum, and every single one of them has something crucial to contribute to your wellness journey. All of the food classes — Juicing, Food Combining, Fermented Foods, Dehydrated Foods, Sprouting, Menu Planning, Entrees and Buffet Preparation, Diet Maintenance, and more — allows you to take the OHI program home with you so you can continue to fuel your body with clean food that will help you maintain energy and vitality after completing your detox. The classes that inspire the mind — Focus I & II, Mental & Emotional Detoxification, Self-Esteem, You Validation, Communication, and so much more — help you practice mindfulness as you explore ways to improve your overall wellness. And the spiritual classes — Alpha I & II, Conscious Breathing I & II, Vision Boards, Release Ceremony, Inspirational Testimonials, and more — deepen your connection with God, which brings so much peace and joy to your life. Right now, I’m teaching the Focus I & II classes where I help guests achieve what matters most to them. In this class we use the Optimum Health Planner to help us focus on our highest priorities. By looking at how you spend your time, identify your core values, and define goals that support these values, you give yourself the opportunity to discover your life’s purpose and set a plan for how to support that purpose. Many people go through life without discovering their purpose, and at the end of the day that can feel like a hollow existence. This class is beautifully designed to help you curate a life that is always meaningful.”
Cheryl is looking forward to little changes in the coming year. “Exciting things are happening on the Austin campus,” said Cheryl. “The setting out in the countryside is always naturally beautiful, and our team is capitalizing on that beauty by incorporating little upgrades here and there. It’s always so gratifying to be able to surprise guests with new changes once in a while. Stay tuned for the changes to be unveiled in 2026!”
Cheryl’s many years at OHI have allowed her to witness truly miraculous change and growth in individuals. Her one piece of advice is simple, yet poignant. “Every guest’s journey is deeply personal, but if there is one piece of advice I can share it is to attend as many classes as you can during your stay,” said Cheryl. “You never know what will resonate for you, and by being open to all of it you’ll find inspiration in the most unexpected moments. Wellness is a lifelong journey, and OHI will always be here to teach you, to inspire you, and to support you. We want guests to feel that OHI is their happy place. It certainly has been for me these past 25 years. I plan to continue to teach here for as long as OHI will have me.”
Welcome back, Cheryl. OHI is so happy to have you back where you belong.
