Specific Information
The 1997 creation of OHI Austin is simply miraculous. Russell Nees and his wife, Helon, stayed at OHI San Diego after Helon was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. They rigorously observed the mind-body-spirit program, and Helon’s cancer went into remission. She was pronounced cancer-free five years later. When the two returned to their Texas home, they prayed to establish another OHI healing mission nearby to help others.
In late 1995, Russell met a man wanting to sell a new facility he’d built near Austin. The 14-acre property was perfectly suited for OHI’s mind-body-spirit program, and Free Sacred Trinity Church purchased the retreat. Since then, OHI Austin has hosted 8,000 guests.
